Master of Science

Hochschule Niederrhein. Your way.

Perspectives for our master students

In four semesters, you can earn an internationally recognized degree with us that will qualify you to pursue an academic career as well as fill management positions in the food and nutrition industry or positions in higher public service. The Master of Science (M.Sc.) degree also gives you the formal qualifications to pursue a doctorate at a university (although this is without prejudice to the specific admission requirements of the university in question).

The studies aim to deepen your knowledge and expertise in issues related to food innovation, product development and processing, as well as food safety, quality and environmental management, and food processing infrastructure planning. Building on this, future focal points of activity may include the analysis of processes and problems in the specific professional field of food processing or the methodical development of practical concepts for problem solutions in this area.

Studies and examination regula

High value for your research competence!

Increasing your research skills is a high priority for us from the 1st semester. You will actively develop, work on and intensively research a scientific topic from the field of study over three semesters. Out of 30 credits to be earned per semester, the research projects will cover:

  • 1st semester: 8 credits
  • 2nd semester: 8 credits
  • 3rd semester: 14 credits

Master seminar

As part of the three-semester studies and research project, the master's seminar takes place on fixed dates during the semester. Here, among others, the master students who are in the 2nd research project semester (FP II) present the current status of their research work. This scientific exchange offers all participants a considerable gain in knowledge and promotes the scientific defense of one's own research activities and results as well as professional discussion. The event takes place in part across all degree programs, so that you become familiar with the broad spectrum of all Master's research activities.
In addition, in the master's seminar you will deal with research topics from food science specific to your study program.
