On the nationwide Girls' & Boys' Day, pupils have the opportunity to spend a day getting a taste of the working world in companies, institutions, clubs and organizations. This is intended to help them discover their own interests.

The Hochschule Niederrhein is taking part again this year and will open its doors on Thursday, April 27, for interested students in 8th grade and above at the Krefeld and Mönchengladbach campuses. A few places are still available.

The aim is to get girls interested in careers in the technical and scientific fields, such as electrical engineering, computer science, cyber security or industrial engineering. Women are currently in the minority in these sectors. Boys get a taste of professions in which men are less likely to be represented. The program includes the design of smart textiles at the Faculty of Textile and Clothing Technology, 3D visualization and animation at the Faculty of Design, and edible packaging at the Faculty of Food and Nutrition Sciences.

One specialisation of the Girls' and Boys' Future Day this year is the environment and climate. For example, young people can calculate their ecological footprint at the Faculty of Business Administration and Economics, learn about recycling options for plastics at the Faculty of Mechanical and Process Engineering, or experience the energy transition at the SWK E² Institute during experiments in the laboratory with refrigerators, heaters, and ventilation and air conditioning systems.

The Hochschule Niederrhein has places available on Girls' and Boys' Day for a total of 68 male pupils and 213 female pupils at eight faculties, two institutes and the library. The offers take place primarily in presence on campus, only the event of the Faculty of Chemistry "Technical Chemistry - A look beyond the test tube" runs additionally digitally.
