The Hochschule Niederrhein (HSNR) Faculty of Design has been providing apprenticeships to students for 120 years. Many people still know the faculties by the names of its predecessor institutions - for example as the Werkkunstschule, which was based in Petersstraße. The university is now celebrating its big anniversary with an extensive program.
To kick things off, the faculties at the Krefeld West campus (corridor on the 1st floor, Building N) at Frankenring 20 will be hosting the "KOMM KOMM KOMM" exhibition, which officially opened last Friday and shows an excerpt from the extensive digital archive.
This includes projects that the Faculty of Design has carried out with, in or about the city of Krefeld - bundled on its own website. The title "KOMM KOMM KOMM" refers to the triad that universities refer to as their "third mission" - connecting research and teaching education to society.
The archive was first presented in 2023 on the occasion of the city anniversary "650 years of Krefeld". It now contains more than 70 projects. Visitors can now discover 24 of them in the exhibition - until the end of the year. Opening hours: Monday to Friday from 9 am to 7 pm. Admission is free.
The budding communication designers Samuel Heinbach, Katharina Heyer and Pauline Vor were supported in the development of the exhibition as part of a project course by Prof. Nora Gummert-Hauser and Dipl.-Des. Jens Könen.
"We are delighted that with the archive we have created a place where it is possible to see how the Faculty of Design has contributed to urban development in recent decades. On the one hand, through very specific projects with the city of Krefeld and its stakeholders. But exhibitions at the faculty, in Krefeld's museums, at the Kunstverein or in the Pförtnerloge, hands-on activities, students' projects and theses as well as discussion and lecture formats for all Krefeld residents were also part of it," says Prof. Nora Gummert-Hauser.
