Kutscher has also received several distinctions, including the BZ Kulturpreis and the Berliner Krimifuchs.

From the plot:

Spring 1937: The Rath family is split up. Actually, Charlotte Rath, née Ritter, wanted to go abroad long ago, but circumstances keep her in Berlin. Her former foster son Fritze has been put into the closed ward of the Wittenau mental hospital, her best friend Greta has disappeared without a trace and is suspected of murder. Meanwhile, Gereon Rath, who has gone into hiding and is presumed dead by the authorities, finds it too dangerous in Germany and boards a zeppelin to escape to the USA.

While Charly tries to get Fritze out of the clinic, solve Greta's disappearance and solve the murder case, things happen on the other side of the Atlantic that she would never have thought possible.
