The Hochschule Niederrhein is launching a comprehensive modernization process in its engineering disciplines in order to further develop its programmes in a future-oriented manner. The aim is to position the university as an innovative and attractive educational location in the long term and to prepare students even better for the challenges of the transformation processes in business and society.
Dr. Thomas Grünewald, President of The Hochschule Niederrhein, explains: "We are working on adapting our engineering programs to current technological and social developments. At the same time, we remain committed to maintaining the proven quality of our existing degree programmes - especially in dual degree programs. Our partner companies in the region and beyond can continue to rely on excellently trained specialists."
As part of the restructuring, two new Bachelor's programs will initially be developed, which are scheduled to start in the 2026/27 winter semester. The new degree program with the working title "Engineering" combines technical disciplines such as electrical engineering and mechanical engineering and expands them to include modern approaches. The second new Bachelor's program will focus on sustainable development. The program will focus on energy engineering and sustainable technologies and integrate interdisciplinary aspects of ecology, economics and social sciences.
The Hochschule Niederrhein aims to increase enthusiasm for technical professions among prospective students with these programs and to promote young technical talent in Germany. In addition to developing the new programmes, the university's organizational structure in the field of engineering will be optimized in order to strengthen interdisciplinary cooperation.
"Our new orientation not only creates innovative study programs, but also strengthens our cooperation with regional and international partners. Together, we are shaping the future of technology and contributing to sustainable development," emphasizes Dr. Thomas Grünewald.
