HSNR and Viersen grammar school seal cooperation

The Bischöfliches Albertus-Magnus-Gymnasium (AMG) in Viersen and The Hochschule Niederrhein (HSNR) would like to support pupils in choosing a job and prepare them for the world of work through possible studies.

The Bischöfliches Albertus-Magnus-Gymnasium (AMG) in Viersen and The Hochschule Niederrhein (HSNR) are joining forces. They want to work closely together in the future to support students in choosing a job and prepare them for the world of work through possible studies. University President Dr. Thomas Grünewald and AMG Director Ursula Deggerich have now signed a cooperation agreement to this end.

After the Maria-Montessori comprehensive school in Krefeld, the Albertus-Magnus-Gymnasium, which is sponsored by the Diocese of Aachen, is the second school with which the HSNR is cooperating this year. Another is already being planned.

Both partners want to inspire young people to pursue studies at a university of applied sciences and help them find the right career path.

854 pupils currently attend the AMG. The boys' and girls' talents are encouraged through participation in science competitions such as "Schüler experimentieren" and "Jugend forscht". The Hochschule Niederrhein also offers an attractive interface to the Faculty of Design in addition to its technical degree programmes, in view of the importance of music and art lessons at AMG. For several years now, the HSNR's Central Student Advice Service has been involved in the "BERUFung@Albertus" study and career guidance event at the school.

"The Hochschule Niederrhein offers interesting subjects close to home, especially in the engineering sciences. The cooperation expands our range of studies and career guidance for our students and their parents," says Headmistress Ursula Deggerich.

The cooperation can take many different forms - sometimes the pupils can get a taste of university life, sometimes the HSNR sends personnel to the schools. Students report on their everyday life as students, Student Advice presents the range of courses and financing options or professors explain their specialty.

At HSNR, boys and girls can attend open lectures, spend a day looking behind the scenes at Girls' & Boys' Day, take part in campus tours and library rallies, take part in STEM workshops and become inventors in the high-tech MakerSpace workshop, for example. An orientation internship is also possible. Events such as the Engineering Days, the Long Evening of Student Advice or the Student Orientation Weeks offer students the opportunity to get to grips with the wide range of courses on offer.

HSNR President Dr. Thomas Grünewald: "We look forward to welcoming many inquisitive students who want to get to know us and our programs. And we hope to be able to support them effectively in finding their dream job."
