No boredom during the summer vacation: MINT workshops for children and young people

During the summer vacations, children and young people can take part in numerous STEM workshops in Krefeld and Mönchengladbach.

The summer vacations are just around the corner and while many are looking forward to a relaxing break, the MINT in Mind project offers an exciting change of pace. Under the motto "No boredom during the vacations", MINT in Mind introduces pupils to the STEM subjects (mathematics, computer science, natural sciences and technology) in a fun way.

Children and young people can try out various STEM courses on their own or with friends - and often free of charge. In addition to exciting experiences and new knowledge, they can create lots of great things to take home with them

In the "Kreativraum Upcycling" workshop (several course dates) run by the City of Krefeld's cultural office, participants can breathe new artistic life into old and everyday objects made of wood, glass or cardboard. They will learn the pouring technique, in which acrylic paint is poured onto the objects to create beautiful patterns.

The "Star Warriors" cosplay workshop will take place daily at the Krefeld media library from July 22 to 26. Girls and boys can make their own costumes and lightsabers. Anyone interested can register for the free event until July 15.

In the "Lego Battle & Hack" workshop at the Mönchengladbach leisure center Team-Craft, young technology enthusiasts can design and program their own cars. At the end, all participants will pit their vehicles against each other in a "Battle Bot" competition. The course takes place daily from July 8 to July 12 from 10 am to 3:30 pm.

The JuniorUni Mönchengladbach offers numerous courses during the summer vacation. Among other things, biology enthusiasts will learn all there is to know about beetles from Arda Kaplan, beetle breeder and amateur entomologist, in the course "The big crawl" (August 14, 10-12 am). In the workshop "Sew your own Boombag" (August 12-13, 10 am - 2 pm), participants can sew their own bag from fabric scraps and decorate it with patches, ribbons, beads or fringes.

All offers and details about the summer vacation activities can be found on the website www.mint-in-mind.de. The MINT in Mind joint project is sponsored by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research and is based at the A.U.G.E. Institute at The Hochschule Niederrhein.
