The Hochschule Niederrhein's Faculty of Design (HSNR) is presenting the Christmas mug at the Krefeld Christmas market for the 18th time. This year, the design was created by graduate designer Knut Michalk.
He teaches students practical skills and knowledge in the field of ceramic and porcelain design. In previous years, students on his model-making course created the Christmas cups, but due to a change in the curriculum, the usual competition for the best design was not possible this year. Michalk himself has been in charge of the "Christmas cup" project for 17 years.
This year, the cup stands out with its unusual shape, which is narrow and slightly curved at the waist and widened towards the top. The handle features the number 24, in keeping with the current year and December 24th. The "sprinkled star decoration" adds Christmas flair.
"In addition to the 'door-opening' 24, I believe that the shape of the mug encourages freer associations," says the graduate designer.
This year's Christmas mug can be purchased for 14.50 euros at the city marketing stand at the Christmas market on the southern Dionysiusplatz.
