There is a new offer for Krefeld's pupils: The MuseumsUni Krefeld starts in November with five lectures at the Kaiser Wilhelm Museum. The MuseumsUni Krefeld is a cooperative project between the Kunstmuseen Krefeld and the Hochschule Niederrhein. The free program combines research topics with the museums' exhibitions. In this way, pupils from secondary schools (grades 5-13) are given access to topics beyond what is taught in class. Class groups can register.
"We are particularly pleased about the cooperation with The Hochschule Niederrhein in the area of art education, as this allows us to firmly anchor cultural education in the education system together with the university and Krefeld schools," says Museum Director Katia Baudin. "The MuseumsUni Krefeld is an important building block for the art museums to establish reliable educational partnerships with schools and also perfectly complements our diverse cooperation with the university."
The first event will be held by Lord Mayor Frank Meyer on November 10. He will speak about Krefeld's development around 1900 in the context of the Krefeld School of Crafts and Applied Arts and the founding of the Kaiser Wilhelm Museum. This will be followed by a tour of collection highlights.
On November 21, Prof. Dr. Erik Schmid (Faculty of Design) will pose the question: Adapt and/or stand out? Why, how, when and for what purpose some things fit together well and some do not ..... The lecture will be followed by a film screening at the exhibition "Sarah Morris. All Systems Fail"
In December, Prof. Dr. Achim Eickmeier from the Faculty of Chemistry will be talking about art and science. "What can heat change? Why heat is a driving moving force that leads to exchange between systems and what that has to do with energy." This will be followed by a brief tour of Joseph Beuys' artist spaces.
In the new year, Prof. Richard Jung (Faculty of Design) will speak about advertising and consumption: "From Posters to Social Media: The Evolution of Creative Advertising. Or: Why advertising is no longer what it used to be. Afterwards, participants will visit selected works in the exhibition "The Great Seduction. Karl Ernst Osthaus and the Beginnings of Consumer Culture."
The degree will be marked by a lecture by Prof. Dr. Frank Jebe (Faculty of Applied Social Sciences): "Believing in Beauty. On the meaning of aesthetic experiences, on good taste and on sensual self-dramatization in the digital age". This will be followed by works in the exhibition "The Great Seduction. Karl Ernst Osthaus and the beginnings of consumer culture" will be visited.
The offer is aimed at class groups accompanied by up to two teachers or accompanying persons. Two to three classes (max. 55 persons) can participate per date. The lectures are aimed at different age groups, which are indicated in each case. The dates last from 12:00 to 13:30. Admission is free.
