There are countless Degree programmes throughout Germany. The Hochschule Niederrhein alone offers more than 80 different bachelor's and master's degree options.

For those who can't decide right away or are unsure whether the degree programme they have in mind is the right one for their future, The Hochschule Niederrhein has created a completely new offer: The orientation semester.

It starts in the summer semester of 2023 and is aimed at all those who are enthusiastic about engineering or technical subjects. From now until March 15, interested students can register for one of a total of eight Bachelor's degree programmes from the four faculties of Chemistry, Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, Mechanical and Process Engineering, and Industrial Engineering.

The orientation semester is designed to help students find out whether they feel comfortable in their chosen Degree programme. Especially for those who have first taken a different path after graduating from school and have spent a year working and traveling abroad or doing a voluntary social year, the start in the summer semester should be a welcome plus.

About the schedule: The standard time to degree is extended by six months to seven semesters through the orientation semester, allowing for normal registration into the studies. It starts in the summer semester, i.e. before the start of the normally six-semester Bachelor's Degree programme. During this time, students go through various modules and earn 30 credit points.

The content includes sustainability and technology, mathematics in applications, technical English or another foreign language, and an interdisciplinary module through which students gain insight into all the faculties involved. "All this offers the chance to find the right engineering discipline for you in the orientation semester and then start the regular bachelor's program in the winter semester," says university president Dr. Thomas Grünewald.
