Prof. Dr. Erik Schmid will talk to the guest students about beauty and truth.

Public lecture series in Krefeld on the topic of "Truth

"Truth" is the topic of the public lecture series as part of the guest lecture program FAUST at the Hochschule Niederrhein. Scientists from the fields of Design, History, Physics and Applied Social Sciences will deal with truth from different perspectives. The lecture series starts on Tuesday, November 7, and ends on December 5. It always takes place from 5 to 7 p.m. in the Shedhalle at Campus Krefeld West, Frankenring 20. Admission is free.

The lecture series will focus on the question of what truth can be in the first place. "Truth has many facets: In mathematics, for example, truth requires freedom from contradiction; in religion, on the other hand, contradiction seems to be a condition for belief in the existence of a god," says design theorist Professor Dr. Erik Schmid, Dean of the Faculty of Design. There are many positions on truth that will be discussed during the winter semester. To that end, different guests attend the lecture each week.

Prof. Dr. Achim Eickmeier from the Faculty of Chemistry turns to truth from the perspective of theoretical physics. Historian Sandra Franz takes a look at the natural sciences and truth. Prof. Dr. Ömer Alkin is a media and communication scientist at the Faculty of Applied Social Sciences of the HSNR and will talk about truth, ideology and method. Prof. Dr. Erik Schmid will take guest students into a conversation about beauty and truth. The order of the lectures is subject to change - please see the information on our website at www.hsnr.de/faust for details.

This series of events is open to the public. All interested parties are invited to attend. Admission is free. Since the Shedhalle cannot be heated, weather-appropriate clothing is recommended. The lecture series is part of the Hochschule Niederrhein's popular FAUST guest lecture program. This year, more than 200 participants will again take part in courses, lectures and workshops.
