Silk and steel - pupils and students present fashion collection

The fashion show of the Clothing Technology Assistants from the Vera Beckers vocational college in Krefeld is returning to the historic sewage treatment plant in Krefeld Uerdingen (Rundweg 20-22, 47829 Krefeld) for the second time. On October 10, 2024 from 7 pm (admission from 6 pm) they will present their own creations under the motto "Sustainability". Members of the cpace collective and other graduates of the Faculty of Textile and Clothing Technology at Hochschule Niederrhein (HSNR) will also be exhibiting their fashion creations.

Following last year's successful fashion show, another collection has been created that picks up on the Krefeld themes of "silk" and "steel". Originally, the reference to silk came about through the cooperation with the Krefeld "House of Silk Culture". However, the history of the steel location is also closely linked to Krefeld. Hard and soft - the students tried to capture this contrast in the outfits they created themselves and organize them in a fashion show.

For example, eye-catching outfits with animal prints, classic shirts with unusual embroidery, old jeans transformed into completely new gowns and "No Wedding, No Problem" - wedding dresses with a difference.

The students at HSNR also take up the motto "sustainability" in their innovative and diverse collections. "Reworked Radiance" is the name of Kerstin Greul's collection, for example. The designer has breathed new life into used items of clothing through upcycling, combining old material with new elements. Lacing and cut-outs create an avant-garde look with designs that are sustainable and trend-conscious.

Leonie Bachstädter has created six outfits for her "PHYGITAL WEAVE" line. She expresses the interweaving of two realities: physical trade and virtual design processes. Renderings of textile surface textures, reflections and drapery are printed on organza or woven on jacquard. Bachstädter also works exclusively with flawed leather. The result is suits, dresses and a coat with 3D-printed buttons and ear protection accessories. The four collections have already been shown at Neo.Fashion as part of Berlin Fashion Week.

The design collective cpace, consisting of ten students from HSNR, opens up new perspectives for the creative scene in Rheydt. The open and university-independent workspace/studio on the campus of The Hochschule Niederrhein in Mönchengladbach offers space for creative work - both for the students themselves and for citizens. Supported by the City of Mönchengladbach's cultural funding, the collective aims to promote an intercultural, inclusive and intergenerational community. The cpace collective connects creative students and artists from the region, thus strengthening the local art and cultural landscape.

Admission to the fashion show at the sewage treatment plant costs seven euros. Tickets for the event can be purchased at the box office or online at https://kalender.klaerwerk-krefeld.org/veranstaltung/seide-trifft-stahl-berufskolleg-vera-beckers/. The income from the show will be donated to the association for the preservation of the sewage treatment plant.
