Attentive visitors to the Krefeld South Campus of The Hochschule Niederrhein (HSNR) will have already spotted it: The steel sculpture "Die Hockende" by Krefeld sculptor, draughtsman and art writer Hans Joachim Albrecht has recently been placed on the university grounds. The inauguration was attended by the HSNR Executive Board and university staff.
The 85-year-old is no stranger to the HSNR. From 1970 to 1974, Albrecht was the first Dean of the Faculty of Design at the newly founded University of Applied Sciences Niederrhein. He taught design education, sculpture and color design at the university from 1973 to 2000. "We are proud to be able to present art from our Faculty of Design," said University President Dr. Thomas Grünewald at the inauguration. "Die Hockende" is one of his sculptural works on the human form. After several stops in Germany, the loaned work, which was created back in 1993, is now clearly visible on a plinth in front of the refectory.
Albrecht's works can be found in numerous national and international museums and collections. He is co-founder of the Kunst und Krefeld e.V. association and founder of the Hans Joachim Albrecht Foundation, which was established in 2009.
