"There's no swearing by an engineer" is the title of a famous comic strip story about Gyro Gearloose, the industrious inventor from Walt Disney's Duckburg. Even though the story was first published 67 years ago, it has lost none of its relevance. Today, engineers are still the creative minds trying to find answers to current questions. And they are desperately sought after on all fronts. The Hochschule Niederrhein invites all those interested in technology to get an idea of modern engineering education at Engineering Day on Friday, January 13th.
Surveys among pupils have shown that many still think of dirty and oil-smeared machines when they hear the word engineer. But this is now far removed from reality. On the contrary, engineers are more important than ever in the areas of sustainability and climate protection. With the help of their expertise, machines can run more efficiently and emit less CO2, for example.
Between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m., the engineering faculties of Chemistry, Electrical and Computer Science, Mechanical and Process Engineering, and Industrial Engineering invite all interested parties to inform, see, and marvel. Visitors can expect an in-house exhibition with exciting student project assignments from all disciplines, a look behind the scenes during campus and laboratory tours, as well as extensive advice on the practical orientation of the Hochschule Niederrhein's Degree programmes.
In addition, partner companies from the region will be on hand to highlight career opportunities for budding engineers. The university's own racing car, which will be competing in the international Formula Student competition, will also be there.
