They are two institutions in Krefeld: The Hochschule Niederrhein and the Krefeld Penguins from the German Ice Hockey League 2 (DEL2). While the university has been training the region's specialists for over 50 years, the Penguins have been inspiring people with high-performance sports since 1936. So it's high time to get a cooperation under way.
The plan is to cooperate on many different levels, such as joint projects in the Degree programmes at the university. "As a university in the region, we are very happy about the cooperation with the Penguins. They are a sporting flagship for the city. I know that numerous students go to the home games on weekends, which increases the attractiveness of Krefeld as a place to study," says Dr. Thomas Grünewald, president of the university. The Penguins offer discounted tickets for students.
As a first measure, the university will draw attention to itself with a gang in the YAYLA Arena. In addition, the player sponsorship for top striker Marcel Müller has been taken over. "We are crossing our fingers for the Penguins in the upcoming playoffs, in particular we wish Marcel Müller a good goal", Grünewald continues.
Sören Mumme, Head of Sponsorship at the Penguins: "We are delighted to have found a strong cooperation partner in The Hochschule Niederrhein. Education is a central pillar of our concept #unserweg for the future of Krefeld ice hockey. We want to enable young players to fully develop on and off the ice. We see the Hochschule Niederrhein, with its extensive range of educational opportunities and as a regional flagship, as an ideal companion in this endeavor."
