The topic of sustainability is currently omnipresent. And for good reason - the experts' forecasts do not bode well if politics and society do not change something soon. The Hochschule Niederrhein (HSNR) must and will also do its part to contribute to a more sustainable world. What those measures are can now be read in the officially published sustainability strategy.
"For us, the topic of sustainability has a very high priority. Together with our students and our employees, we want to take the path to a more sustainable future. The strategy that has now been published is just the first step. Now we have to fill it with life," says university president Dr. Thomas Grünewald.
The entire university community spent a year addressing the issue of sustainability. Students, academic and administrative staff, and even professors provided input. "I was very pleased that the university community was so involved. This is a good foundation for the sustainable development of the university," says Dr. Dorothee Renker, the sustainability officer of the Hochschule Niederrhein.
The result is a 22-page brochure that sets out the guidelines for greater sustainability at the university. It formulates strategic goals, fields of action and a catalog of measures for more sustainability in teaching and studies, research and transfer, and operations and organization. The starting point for the sustainability strategy was the University Development Plan 2022-26, which defines sustainable university development as a strategic goal of the HSNR.
