The Krefeld Climate Pact has been signed in the Historic Council Chamber of the City of Krefeld. The Hochschule Niederrhein's President Dr. Thomas Grünewald signed the climate pact. In addition to the Hochschule Niederrhein, the initial partners of the climate pact naturally include the city administration, but also the Chamber of Industry and Commerce (IHK) Mittlerer Niederrhein, the Chamber of Crafts (HWK) Düsseldorf, the Kreishandwerkerschaft Niederrhein/Krefeld/Viersen/Neuss and the Wirtschaftsförderung Krefeld (WFG).
Mayor Frank Meyer sees the newly formed alliance as an important step toward greater climate protection: "We can only achieve the climate turnaround together at the municipal level, too, by making greater use of renewable energies and reducing CO2 emissions in all areas. That's why I'm pleased about the broad alliance of partners and hope that many companies will now take advantage of the opportunities." Krefeld's Head of Environment Sabine Lauxen, whose portfolio also includes the Support Office Climate, emphasizes: "The City of Krefeld would like to support local companies in a more climate-friendly orientation with various consulting and information services. In addition, with the new office for the Krefeld Climate Pact, it offers a central point of contact for questions and agreements."
Together, the initial partners support the climate partners in implementing their corporate climate protection measures. In this way, the Climate Pact offers all Krefeld companies an opportunity: those companies that are already actively engaged in climate protection are given the opportunity to present their previous efforts even better and together with many other climate partners. In turn, companies looking for an entry into the topic of climate protection can benefit from the expertise and experience in the network of climate and initial partners of the Krefeld Climate Pact. Starting on May 10th, the city of Krefeld will be offering free advice on climate protection concepts for small and medium-sized companies based in Krefeld for this year.
The Hochschule Niederrhein also attaches particular importance to the Climate Pact. The cooperation between the university and the city administration will be placed on new foundations when it comes to climate protection, says university president Dr. Thomas Grünewald: "Within the framework of the climate pact, we will work systematically and in cooperation with the other partners of the climate pact toward the major goal of a climate-neutral city." A central goal of the university's sustainability strategy, he said, is to work with business and society to advance the sustainable development of our region. "The Krefeld Climate Pact provides the optimal framework for this: We look forward to working here with our scientists to promote a climate-friendly city of Krefeld."
