Conferences, internal meetings, workshops, crash courses, company visits and excursions: over the past two years, seven companies from the region have worked intensively on the topics of Energy Efficiency and greenhouse gas neutrality. Now the participants in the "Energy Cost and Climate Protection Management DIALOG 3" network have drawn a positive conclusion: if all the measures developed are implemented, energy consumption could be reduced by around 3,400 tons of CO2 emissions with energy savings of almost 16,000 megawatt hours per year. This was the third time that the Chamber of Industry and Commerce (IHK) Mittlerer Niederrhein and The Hochschule Niederrhein had initiated an Energy Efficiency and Climate Protection Network.
"Unlike the previous networks, this network focused on the specialization of companies to develop a path to zero carbon, i.e. greenhouse gas neutrality," explains Professor Ulrich Nissen from the Chair of Controlling and Energy Management, who was responsible for organizing the content of the network with his academic staff Simon Ingmanns. The IHK acted as the network sponsor. At the final conference, the participants presented their individually developed climate neutrality paths.
"The more than presentable result shows once again that our companies are pioneers in climate protection and are continuously improving their production processes," says IHK Managing Director Jürgen Steinmetz. "However, it is also necessary to improve the energy policy framework to achieve this."
The network has been officially registered with the nationwide initiative for Energy Efficiency and Climate Protection Networks and has thus made an active contribution to achieving Germany's climate targets.
