Violence against women: Perspectives for change

20.11.2024 17:30

Every third woman in Germany is affected by sexual and/or physical violence. 25% of all women experience physical and/or sexual violence in their relationship. 2 out of 3 women experience sexual harassment (https://www.hilfetelefon.de/das-hilfetelefon/zahlen-und-fakten.html).

As part of the event "Violence against women: Perspectives for Change", which was initiated by the Equal Opportunities Officer of The Hochschule Niederrhein together with the Mönchengladbach associations Zonta I, Zonta II and Soroptimist, the aim is to look at what structural changes are necessary to effectively identify and tackle the causes of violence against women and create environments in which gender-based violence does not stand a chance.

The event will be introduced by a keynote speech from Gerhard Hafner. The psychologist is an ambassador for the HeForShe movement of UN Women Germany and an expert in working with perpetrators. Other participants in the subsequent panel discussion are Susanne Büdenholzer-Boms from the Mönchengladbach Women's Counseling Center, Prof. Dr. Sandra Glammeier from The Hochschule Niederrhein and Sabine Pesch from the Mönchengladbach Police Victim Protection Unit.
