The Soroptimist, Zonta I and Zonta II clubs in Mönchengladbach, in cooperation with the equal opportunities department of The Hochschule Niederrhein, will place as many mannequins or busts on a campaign area in the MINTO on 25 November 2024 as there are women who have been murdered by their partners or ex-partners in Germany up to this date in 2024.
The mannequins and busts will be dressed in an orange T-shirt and wear a printout around their necks with the number of the femicide and a sentence about the crime.
The campaign will be opened at 5 p.m. at MINTO by the patron of the event, Lord Mayor Felix Heinrichs, on the lower campaign area. The next day until the end of the Orange Days, 10.12.2024, the dolls will be on display in the medical center on Dahlener Straße, in the university library in Mönchengladbach and in various MAXMO pharmacies, among other places.
The aim is to represent the large number of femicides through the mass of dolls and busts and thus do justice to the topic socially.
All these women could still be alive if conflicts were not resolved through violence.
This year, over 80 women have already fallen victim to femicide.
The clubs have been campaigning for years to name and change structures in society.
