Mina Sönmez | Business Informatics 2018-2022

7-minutes breaks

Mina Sönmez associates 7-minute breaks and the realization that lecturers are just people with her time at university and pride in her own achievements.

Mina Sönmez has been working as a junior consultant for SAP at Eviden GmbH (formerly Atos GmbH) since completing her degree in business informatics. This is exactly what her studies prepared her for. Thanks to the practical orientation of her studies, she has always been able to take something away from various modules that she now uses in her job.

Mina Sönmez was influenced at the university by the moments when the professors gave her an insight into their own careers. This motivated the students and let them know that lecturers are only human. It became clear that even the professors had not passed all written examinations at the first attempt and had not been exemplary students in every module. Nevertheless, they achieved what they set out to do. This helps Mina Sönmez now when she sometimes can't complete a task perfectly or doesn't manage it completely. Of course, this was especially true at the beginning of her professional life.

And what else does she remember from the lectures? Mina Sönmez says that the lecture given by Professor Dr. Andreas Syska in the Production module was a lot of fun, because his way of speaking was very narrative and enthusiastic. She will also remember the odd 7-minute breaks with a smile in the future. She also remembers a lecture from her first semester for which she and her group had to program a toy car. Her group's car later came top in the assessment. "I won't forget this proud feeling for a long time."

Mina Sönmez is now considering doing her Master's at The Hochschule Niederrhein, but this time in Cybersecurity Management. She explains how Professor Dr. René Treibert managed to make even pupils who were reluctant to code - like Mina Sönmez herself - want to code in a very relaxed way.

When asked about her favorite drink to keep her awake after perhaps not quite exciting lectures, she would have liked to have been exemplary and named green tea, but in reality it was quite student-traditional. Mina Sönmez says she drank a lot of coffee and energy drinks, especially in the winter semester. Especially because the lectures started in the dark and ended in the dark.

Today, Mina Sönmez is still in contact with almost all of the students from her study groups. They were separated by corona at the time, so they lost sight of each other. Fortunately, the graduation ceremony that Faculty 08 organized for them brought them back together.

We are curious to see whether we will soon be able to welcome Mina Sönmez back to The Hochschule Niederrhein as a student and look forward to her further impressions with us.
